Managing Online School

Online school has been tough.    Here are common struggles of online school: Forgetting about small assignments Putting off pre-recorded lectures Increased Digital Distraction I have experienced all of the above! Recognizing the unfortunate circumstances and future with Covid-19 and that in-person school is far away, I work on motivating myself to adapt more efficiently. Here are the methods that i’ve used to work through online school: Use a calendar!  This sounds generic, but it’s actually quite helpful. In the past (and as a procrastinator), I tried to use them, but I kept forgetting to add school work and events. As a result, I gave up.  Recently, I tried again, but by using an app - which worked better for me because i’m on my laptop more often. Since the prof’s for my courses released due dates at the beginning of the semester, I immediately added them, and so far - I've been on top of my work! However, I have missed a few quizzes because I missed a few ...

Calming Yoga by Breanna Bolliger

Hi everyone, my name is Breanna! I am so happy to be sharing my personal passions of health on wellness through this creative platform and have the opportunity to help you reach your wellness goals. Throughout my entire life, health and wellness have played an important role in my life. I thoroughly enjoy partaking in activities that help me on a physical and mental level. Especially during these challenging times, I try to take an extended effort to take breaks and make time for calming practices such as doing Yoga. What sparked my interest in Yoga? My interest in yoga first started when I decided to look up some exercise routines on YouTube and I came across a video just 10 minutes long of a female accomplishing all sorts of yoga moves. I found it interesting and it was something I have never done before, so I decided to give the session a try. After I had completed the session, I was very surprised by how impactful the session was. I felt more relieved, my joints and mus...

Self-Confidence is All You Need by Ashley Bolliger

Hello, my name is Ashley. Mental health and wellness have always been a priority and working goal of achievement throughout my life. As a busy human-being completing school and daily activities where life can seem overwhelming, however I have managed to adapt and find ways to assist my mental health. Throughout the creation of these blog posts I hope my wellness advice can help you in a positive way. The topic I’m going to discuss throughout this post is a feeling we often don’t realize that plays an important role in our daily success. Self-Confidence is all about trusting our own capabilities and judgment, as well as, valuing our worth, despite the imperfections and ways others may view us. In today’s world, many of us students become so hard on ourselves when situations don’t go our way. We work hard to receive good grades, but we may not get the grade we intended to receive or we wish to look a certain way but forget to be our unique authentic selves. The key to self-confid...

Seasons

Image
People come, people go, and people change. For this blog, I will refer to this as “seasons” because as time progresses, people change, just like seasons.  Quite frequently, people say that this is good because the true friends stay. For many people, this is true and they are able to maintain healthy relationships. Once someone leaves, it is easy to label them as a selfish or toxic person. However, there are some seasons in which both of you changed or you realized that you formed a temporary relationship because of the situation. One of the most common seasons is gaining acquaintances. For example, you join a sports team and once the league ends, you no longer interact with the teammates. This is an example of a temporary relationship because you regularly practiced and played with them but only interacted with them during those times. As a result, it ended because there was no external interaction and you never got to know them well. Another common season is a change of int...

Why Failure is Good by Rebecca Nicole Sy

Image
As a child, the thought of failure scared me. It was the constant source of my stress and anxiety. I grew up poor, and my parents did not have the privilege of purchasing many luxuries, such as a phone, or new clothing and jewelry. However, even though we didn’t have a lot of money, I have always aspired to have their handworking and altruistic spirit. Both my parents work persistently to continue to develop their career to support our family, and I am extremely grateful to have them in my life. Their dedication has pushed me to work as hard, if not harder, to ensure that their efforts are valued and honored. As a result, I surmised that if I didn’t live up to their standards and my own high standards, it would be the same as being ungrateful for their tireless hours of hard work. In other words, I thought if I failed to do something well, I would be failing them - and my worth as a person would no longer exist.   I have lived by this rule for most of my childhood, which in ...

Decisions by leea

Recently, I’ve noticed myself reflect on the major decisions that I’ve made in the past few years. Whether they be related to my academics or personal life, there were definitely moments that I wish could’ve played out in another direction. Would my life be drastically different in comparison to how it has transpired right now if such and such happened instead? In terms of missed opportunities, what was it that motivated me to not pursue them? Was it the fear of the unknown consequences or the discomfort of breaking out of my comfort zone? Whatever the reasons were, I’ve come to recognize some common pitfalls that often interfered with my decision-making process.  The Mindset: A Decision Doesn’t Limit but Rather Opens up our Options Someone once told me that there exists no bad decision because every choice will continue to lead us to an infinite number of outcomes. Like a choose-your-own-adventure book, our unique experiences collectively work to shape our beliefs and persp...

Here's How I Survive Sheltering in Place by Neha Bhattacharya

Image
As time moves in circles on the clock, whipping and foaming each moment into sticky molasses, sheltering in place feels like solidifying in the unsettling churn of everyday silence. Ennui sits heavy on my chest especially when four walls are the only things real enough to be touched and felt. This unwarranted stillness often amplifies the disquiet in my head; it breathes life into my anxieties and insecurities and then hands them a power bar. In my self-loathing pity-party, almost daily do I meet these newly animate foes. They dip their slimy fingers into the sticky gelatinous quarantine-day and swirl it around absentmindedly as they belch out their unsolicited opinions about just how badly I am. After hours of catering to the needs of my guests, at dusk, fatigued, I fall into a post-party stupor while my foes quietly glide away promising to come back at the very crack of dawn. On some days they come back in fewer numbers. Once in a while, they leave me alone as they...
