Calming Yoga by Breanna Bolliger

Hi everyone, my name is Breanna! I am so happy to be sharing my personal passions of health on wellness through this creative platform and have the opportunity to help you reach your wellness goals.

Throughout my entire life, health and wellness have played an important role in my life. I thoroughly enjoy partaking in activities that help me on a physical and mental level. Especially during these challenging times, I try to take an extended effort to take breaks and make time for calming practices such as doing Yoga. What sparked my interest in Yoga? My interest in yoga first started when I decided to look up some exercise routines on YouTube and I came across a video just 10 minutes long of a female accomplishing all sorts of yoga moves. I found it interesting and it was something I have never done before, so I decided to give the session a try. After I had completed the session, I was very surprised by how impactful the session was. I felt more relieved, my joints and muscles did not have tension anymore and most of all, my slight headache catching on had left me. The Practice of Yoga is for everyone A lot of times some may not have the motivation or physical capabilities to work out or go to the gym. But what many seem to misunderstand is that the practice of yoga is very individual and free range. No matter if someone is advanced at doing yoga or a beginner, the goals of the practice can still be accomplished. If someone cannot fully complete the strenuous yoga pose of a downward facing dog position, they can simply modify the move and learn how to improve later on. Yoga allows learners to grow and challenge their limits in completing movements. The goal is to not copy or replicate the move you may see by someone else but to learn how to improve in the practice itself. Most of all yoga gives everyone the chance to set aside any negative feelings and enjoy the moment. Benefits of Yoga As I started to expand my interest in doing this daily activity, I started to realize the it was a unique outlet to relieve stress. Even further, I became more familiar with the many health benefits that come with the practice of yoga. According to Dr. Nevins some benefits include: Physical Benefits - Improved respiration, flexibility and circulation. - Maintained balanced metabolism. - Improved athletic performance. - Improved protection against injury. Mental Benefits - Sharpens attention - Relieves chronic stress patterns - Increases body awareness and calmness - Relaxes the human mind Yoga Resources In today’s virtual world, there are so many ways individuals can accomplish sessions of yoga in the comfort of their own home. You can search on the internet to see pictures of poses or even look up yoga routines on YouTube. My personal yoga favourite routines are by Ally Maz, a global ambassador for lululemon. Her 20-minute morning yoga class is the perfect way to start off the day. I end the session feeling more relaxed and energized to take on the day without having to feel exhausted, unlike, a lot of other exercise routines. The unique part about her yoga sessions is that they become more than just attempting yoga poses, but she also implements meditation that makes the yoga experience that much more enjoyable. If you haven’t attempted yoga before, then today is the day to try a new opportunity! All you need is a spot to practice, and a clear mind. You’ll never know maybe you will find your next hobby and make yoga apart of your everyday wellness routine. Enjoy!
