Spring Wellness by Ashley Bolliger
Spring has finally sprung and for many of us, we may be ready to say goodbye to the cold, damp and gloomy winters!
For me, continuing to complete daily tasks like school-work indoors has become more mentally straining than ever before. But, what I have been able to realize and learn throughout the last few months is the importance of taking care of my mental health.
Some of us may have felt more mentally drained given that winter is so cold and causes us to remain in our homes and stay away from the outdoors. But, now that spring is finally here and we can all celebrate new beginnings and think about the ways that we can adjust our lifestyles to achieve our best mental health possible.
In the past week, with the sun shining more and the snow melting, I have had multiple opportunities to take a break from my busy life and become involved in many spring activities!
1. Going on nature walks
Of course, getting outside and staying active is an important aspect towards maintaining our mental health, but experiencing the season of spring is what makes me feel the most motivated in my day.
In the area where I live, there are multiple scenic walking trails that always give me the opportunity to see something new and exciting. In the last few walking adventures, I have been able to see a variety of new bird species chirping flying all around me. Further, every time I go outside, I have been able to experience the progression of blossoms on the trees and tulips starting to appear in many flower beds.
So, if you love to experience nature and enjoy seeing all of spring's blooms, I highly suggest you take some time out of your day and partake in something that will truly make you feel more relieved. I know sometimes it’s difficult to separate ourselves from our busy lives when we are so caught up and accomplishing so much in our daily lives, but trust me, once you make this part of our daily routine, it becomes a natural habit that you won’t want to miss.
2. Partaking in some spring baking
With Easter being right around the corner, it is the perfect time to gather with family and enjoy baking some new and fun recipes.
Throughout my life, baking has always been something I enjoy doing with my mom and sister. It gives me the opportunity to take a break from all my busy thoughts and schoolwork and embrace the moment.
Some of my favourite spring baking goods include:
Creating easter cupcakes
Baking easter bread
Making mini-egg cookies
If you are interested in baking this weekend, there are so many fun easter recipes on Pinterest and on Instagram.
For many of us, finding a hobby might be a little tricky, but once you find that one activity that makes you feel fulfilled, and mindful, you will want to make time for it and will continue to make it a part of your daily or annual routine!
Altogether, there are so many fun and interactive ways to get involved during the season of spring!
I hope this post has given you the opportunity to consider the many ways you can become mindful during this spring season! For some of us, finding what truly motivates us, is all we need to keep calm and carry on with our lives.
